Review taken from Artist
Direct:
' Monster Club album is made up mostly of re-recorded versions of songs
from the band's early singles and albums. They don't always capture the
youthful exuberance the band had when it first began, but the new versions
are always fun, funny punk-pop of the highest order. As usual, the songs
are short, sharp stabs of loud guitars, snottily melodic vocals, and silly
monster movie-inspired lyrics. The originals like "Blood Beach"
and "Do the Bat" are cool, but the best songs on the record
are the covers. Their version of "Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow"
does a smashing job of recasting the Monkees tune into a punk-pop anthem.
They also do fun things with Daniel Johnston's "Deviltown,"
the silly '50s rocker "The King Kong Stomp," and Herman's Hermits'
"Don't Go Out in the Rain (You're Going to Melt)." The only
cover that fails is their attempt at one of their main inspiration's songs.
Then again "Pet Sematary" is one of the Ramones' worst songs
anyway. The band surely only chose it because of the scary subject matter.
This is a record that fans of the band will find to be a fun diversion,
certainly not essential though real fanatics will want to have the one
new song, the goofy "Lizard King." Listeners new to the band
may find it to be a good introduction to the Ghoulies sound but would
probably be better off getting one of their more recent albums instead.

Review taken from Long
Gone Loser:
I have
a few Groovie Ghoulies albums now and they all seem to hit me the same
way. Straight away I really enjoy their Ramones styled horror cartoon
tunes. And it never hurts to have the great sound that Mass Giorgini produces
so well for harmonic punk rock bands, I've loved it since I heard Screeching
Weasel's Television City Dream. The hooks are really good, working so
well with the balance between all the cutesy and the hardness to the guitar.
This is how I felt with the last couple too, but now that they have a
new little brother they just remain unlistened on the shelf. I dunno if
it's just me or if their appeal wears off after they've been listened
in. Granted, my attention span is little better than pathetic. -- Aaron

Reviews taken from Kronic:
recente passato di "Go! Stories" (tanto per dirne uno..) pare
nulla. I toni appaiono davvero del tutto simili: solito ammiccante poppunk
dalle venature r`n`r che sprizza sangue e zucchero, soliti racconti horror
all`acqua di rose, solita voce "più-di-naso-che-di-diaframma"
e chitarre gracchianti.
Comes Tomorrow" e "Don`t Come Out Into The Rain (You`re Going
coinvolgente "Running With Big Foot", ma troppo simile a "Let`s
Do It Again" di "Go! Stories".
Bello, solito.
lustro? ...Ragazzi, avete già pensato troppo, state solo perdendo
filosofi!
Review taken from Be
Nice To Mommy:
Continua

On Parade en 2001, Travel With My Amp en 2000, Fun in the Dark en 1999),
"The King Kong Stomp", "The Beast With Five Hands",
"Blood Beach", "Do The Bat", "Running With Bigfoot",
-- Peg
