Reviews:
Taken from Long Gone Loser #8/2003:
I had heard many good things about these guys when I was in Germany and
now finally I have heard their music. This is their second album and it's
a gem. Fans of Screeching Weasel are gonna love this. Would you expect
anything else from the lads at Stardumb? As per usual, like the majority
of the Stardumb releases, it's damn good. Yeah, the Screeching Weasel
influence is there but there's a little more rock added to this for a
different flavour. It's upbeat, catchy and never gets boring unlike a
lot of Ramones clone bands. Energetic and fun songs, especially the song
"At The Sonic Ballroom" - a tribute to Cologne's best rock n
roll nightclub. I've been there and I can only dream of Australia having
something this good. Also has a cover of the Misfits' classic, "Skulls".
Good stuff and funny Photoshop-ed cover art.
Taken from Inside Knowledge #7/2003:
The Backwood Creatures are definitely party animals. From the partyforest
of Cologne, Germany these "living legends" bring you 12 tracks
of rock'n roll party music poured in a 70's dusty sleeve. The band consists
of Heini Heartbreaker, Tough Timo, Nilz Nonchalant, Tommy Toilet and Leif

Wave:
This is not bad. From my favorite overseas label comes this well produced,
well played pop punk effort. It’s not as over the top catchy as,
say, the Queers, Ramones, Screeching Weasel, Apers etc. But occasionally
a poppy chorus jumps in to catch you by surprise. While not being blissful,
it’s extremely listenable in a streamlined way- the production and
playing take a front seat ahead of the pop sensibilites. Not bad ‘tall,
m’lad. -- Jimmy Reject

Brains Zine:
Funny sleeve - Backwood Creatures really are "Living Legends"
- they were with Elvis, Dean Martin, Beatles, Stones, James Dean and even
Ronald Reagan - hahaha. OK, now about music. As most bands on Stardumb
Records, Backwood Creatures play poppy punk. I'm not really 100% into
it, but it seems kids really dig this kind of stuff. Well, the roots are
in 70s punk and if it was more to that direction I would probably like
it more. But, maybe I'm wrong here, but it's good that music changes.
When you hear it few times - it sounds pretty good. My favorites are "She's
A Wow" with rockin' guitar, great Undertones feeling and "You
Definitely Suck" - great lyrics and pretty good Misfits cover "Skulls".

punk zine:
I still owe a beer to the Backwoods' guitarist, Nilz Nonchalant. He might
take this positive review instead, for we're not likely to meet in some
time. The second longplayer from Germany's Backwood Creatures is what
noone can call a regular Chuck-wearing, Ramones-worshiping Weasel-core
band. This
features a very mature sound, a Chuck-wearing band combining some mighty
riffs and some rocking solos with genial pop songwriting. A hell lot of
rock'n'roll fun (and jumping and dancing too) packed in a very 50's cover!
Even includes a song about Cologne's premium garage rock bar, the Sonic
Ballroom (been there, done that!). Fans of the Real Kids, Heartbreakers
and the likes, buy this right away! Others -- buy it too, you won't be
disappointed. This is probably the best rocking album I heard this year,
but
I'm under impression the title will stick for a long time. 12 pieces of
pure gold! -- Nick Ketchup

On Playing:
This is a typical Stardumb realease, fast catchy poppunk with a rock’n
roll tune. Normally I’m not a big fan from this kind of punk, but
these guys can really amuse me! Listening to this album really makes me
happy! Fine album, I’m looking forward to their third one! -- Florian

Taken from In-Your-Face:
-- Ralf
Taken from Vampster:
