Now, the latest Stardumb split 7”. What to say? Believe me now or
believe me later: THIS RECORD FUCKING ROCKS! German punk rock, my friends,
is thankfully better than German food! You get two bands, four songs,
and 14 inches of pleasure in all. I dig the format, I dig the label. And
I dig these bands! The Battledykes prove once again that you can get away
with aping The Ramones if you have a chick singer and pump a bit of rock
n’ roll into the pop-punk formula. Would you rather listen to The
Queers or Nikki and the Corvettes? Would you rather listen to Darlington
or The Eyeliners? Would you rather listen to The Huntingtons or The Bobbyteens?
I rest my case. Both Battledykes tunes here are totally derivative blasts
of Ramones-ian firepower laced with the usual sexy-rocking girl-band charms
and the raw, savage ferocity that usually distinguishes European pop-punk
from its American counterpart. Both songs kick ass a la early Donnas,
and I especially like “Boy”. This shit is HOT!!!!!
The Dirtshakes feature Mr. Jenz Bumper of Jet Bumpers fame, so you should
know what to expect from their two ditties: catchy, hooky, fun-time rock
n’ roll with pop smarts and punk rock vigor. “Black and White”,
the Zeros cover, smokes---as does the awesome original “Girl”.
Buddy Holly meets The Rip Offs? Maybe. Let’s keep this simple, shall
we? Buy this record if you love rock n’ roll.

Stardumb Records. De derde Terrific Team-Ups van het leukste label van
nederland is weer een schot in de roos. Wederom een te gekke cover van
Cosh, en twee bands waar ik nog niet van gehoord had. Beide bands komen
uit Duitsland, waar de mannen van Stardumb wel meer goeds vandaan halen.
Dirtshakes is een band met een, nee hèt ex-lid van de Jet Bumpers,
Jenz Bumper en mannen van Cave4 en Backwood Creatures. Een niet al te
gecompliceerde punkrock bom, en een mix van eerdre genoemde bands. Punkrock
op en top! Leuke hooks en geweldige zang. The Battledykes komende ergens
uit Noord Duitsland. Meidenpunk die we kennen van The Riplets en The Lulabelles,
eigenlijk niet meer en niet minder dan dat. Niet echt iets super bijzonders.
