SNOTTY CHEEKBONES

(February 2003)

1. You just released your first CD "Strange Ahead". What's the difference between the album and the EP you released a year ago?

Yves: I think the recordings and the song writing is much better. But just like every small band we had to get by with a very low budget. So although we're quite happy with the over-all quality, the sound on "strange ahead" still could be a bit better. That's what we'll be working on for the next album.

2. Yves, you look a lot like a guy from Rotterdam called Gareth. Is he family of yours?

Yves: No, I don't think so... I'm pretty sure that I look better... hehehe.

3. Gareth is playing in a band called Springrain. They play emo. Do you like emo too?

Yves: No I'm not a sucker for this kind of music and I guess I'll never be. Right now emo is really big here in Switzerland, there are a lot of emobands but I still prefer poppunk, rock'n'roll and punkrock. The only band I like which is sometimes referred to emo is Weezer. But to me they are rather a cool powerpop band and not really emo.

4. Which kind of cheese is better: the Dutch or the Swiss one?

Yves: Of course the Swiss one 'cause it smells more like a fart!

5. Why don't you call the band the Stinky Cheesebones?

Yves: Why dont you call yourself Starbucks Records?

6. What do you expect of the Netherlands tour with The 20 Belows & The Prednisons in February?

Yves: These will be the first shows for us outside of Switzerland and I'm really excited about how people will react. I really like Rotterdam as a city so I think I will also like the Netherlands and I hope to run into Ruud Gullit 'cause he was one of my favourite soccer players when I was a child. As far as I got to know the 20 Belows and the Prednisons from their e-mails they are really really nice people.

7. Yves, tell us something about your label Brat Records?

Yves: Brat Records is a really small label. We have three releases out: the Snotty Cheekbones "better sooner than never" EP, the Snotty Cheekbones "strange ahead" album and the first EP of our rehearsal roommates Slartybartfast. Right now I'm the only one who's working for the label but our singer C-stoph does a lot of graphic stuff and helps me out a lot. I'm concentrating on booking stuff, like for the Apers, Wiseguy, Huntingtons, Reekys, Backwood Creatures and so on so a lot of cool bands ask me to book shows for them in Switzerland and I'm really happy about that 'cause slowly but steadily the poppunk virus is comin' over switzerland and nothing can hold it back. And yes, of course I also like to work a lot with Stardumb Records (maybe you have heard of them...)

8. How come Switzerland is such a rich country?

Yves: That's a tough one... So far Switzerland has been really clever concerning politics. I'm not sayin' that they took always the right decisions and of course we got the most famous bancs in the world and a lot of money was brought to our country this way. Switzerland was really lucky during the second world war. We weren't bombed and so we saved a lot of money to rebuild buildings and stuff. But I can't give you an exact answer 'cause there are many things which are involved in this question. By the way, rocking your ass off as a punkband in Switzerland doesn't make you any richer than elsewhere.

9. Proud to be a loser? Wouldn't you rather be a winner?

Yves: The song on the Stardumb compilation "happy to be a loser" is about being an outcast. When I was a kid some people told me that punkrock is just for losers and the real shit is techno. For me it was like: If punkrock is just for losers then I'm really happy to be a loser.

10. Can you come up with a tenth question yourself, please?!

Yves: Can someone tell me who the fuck is Stardumb Records? (-;
