THE SHOPLIFTERS

(February 2003)

1. I thought Yugoslavia didn't excist anymore?

SL: It does exist, dummy. Some of the countries have moved out of our grasp, so now it's Serbia + Montenegro. We'll see how long will this one last.

2. Did you know you are the last band in the world without a website?

SL: Yeah, that's probably true. We are probably the only band on your comp that hasn't had a single gig yet, too. We are stupid, O.K.!

3. Do you guys all smoke cigars?

SL: Not really. Well, 75% of us do. I, the person who wrote the song, do smoke, and none of us had problems playing "Cheap talk...", if that's what you're reffering to.

4. Is it true you guys play in another band too?

SL: Some of us do. Chiatto also plays in Red Union and Bonebreaker, Deja plays in Pressing and Aronia, Filip (our now already ex singer/bassplayer) also plays in Pressing and Aronia, + two more bands(!), and our new bassplayer Basara plays drums in a band called No Abuse. I guess none of these bandnames (except, maybe, Red Union) mean anything to anyone outside Serbia. Nevermind...

5. Do you guys like Weezer?

SL: No, we hate them!!! Where in the world would you get that kind of an idea?! Just kidding, of course we love them, what did you think?

6. How is the economical situation in your country? The USA and all the Western European countries are complaining that times are getting really tough right now. I was wondering how you guys experience this time, cause I think you already had some really tough times in the past.

SL: Well, the actual war (the one with guns and stuff, you know) is long gone by now, but now the nice capitalyst folks  struggle to get us in their "global economic market" and through the "transition" as fast as they can. Now we're just another peaceful third world country.

7. What's the coolest thing you ever stole?

SL: Vojin is probably the coolest Shoplifter. He once stole raspberries from a retirement home and sold them on the street later. Besides that, we all do our shares of stealing CDs, but I guess we're still amateurs in this profession.

8. What's S.C.A.B. zine?

SL: S.C.A.B. is a shitty zine done by two friends of ours. For now they are the Shoplifters officials, but we plan to change that in near future. If there are any idiots out there who would like to check it out, the address is www.scabzine.com <http://www.scabzine.com>.

9. Do you know Nick Ketchup from Novi Sad? Tell us some gossip about him! :)

SL: Yes. For this one, I had to call Vlada, and he told me some idiotic stuff about him. So here goes: he learns very good, he's successful at listening bands, he has a girl who goes to college and he likes to study with her. He has small but a thick one, and he loves to visit gigs because he's a robot(?). Wow!

10. You send in two songs for the compilation. Do you think Stardumb picked the right one?

SL: We like them both, they are our babies. You picked the shorter one and that's O.K. with us. Cheers!
